2311 West Chilton Street, Chandler, Arizona 85224, United States
Our Mittens is a domestic long haired tuxedo cat with white paws, tummy, collar and a nipped left ear. His face is all black with big white whiskers and he has a long fluffy tail. He is 3 years old, medium to large in size, neutered and has a TNR tipped ear.
Mittens was born in our garage to one of the homeless cats living in our neighborhood. We fell in love with him and adopted him into our home. He is NOT a colony cat, he is very much a loved and cared for member of our family. Mittens is the sweetest, most affectionate boy who has a real calming presence on his siblings. They miss him as much as we do.
The homeless cat situation in our neighborhood has been an issue for many years. We began working with the City of Chandler over 3 years ago in an effort to reduce the problem. We have received a Grant from the City for T.N.R. on the neighborhood cats. Again, Mittens in not a homeless neighborhood cat, he is our beloved pet.
Trap, Neuter, Return is a program designed to keep the homeless cat population from increasing. The City of Chandler provides us with a Grant to pay for the spaying of the cats. They supply us with traps and schedule/pay for the appointments with a Veterinary Clinic in Mesa. We trap and transport the cats and then pick up and aftercare. A cat that has been TNR'd is easily identified by a small portion at the tip of the left ear removed.
To date we have neutered 38 cats in our neighborhood and we continue to trap monthly. The current Grant runs through December 2022 and we plan to renew again. If you are in our neighborhood and are interested in TNR Services (helping out or in need of), please let us know.
There was a house fire across the street from us in January, the entire house was destroyed. Thankfully the residents and pets all got out safely.
On February 16, 2022 they were finishing demolition of the home and they removed a large dumpster that was being used. The sound of the dumpster scratching along the concrete and the street was incredibly loud and scared Mittens who ran out the back door. That is the last time we saw our beautiful boy
